SuperMeat Sets Industry-First Projections for Cultivated Chicken Sustainability, Outperforming Conventional Methods
SuperMeat, a leading food-tech company, has recently shared groundbreaking projections for the future of cultivated chicken production. Through a comprehensive Life-Cycle Analysis conducted by independent sustainability research firm CE Delft, SuperMeat’s cultivated chicken has been shown to outperform ambitious benchmarks set for conventional chicken production in the 2030s.
The analysis revealed that SuperMeat’s cultivated chicken could achieve a carbon footprint approximately 50% lower than the benchmarks for traditional chicken production, even when relying on standard grid electricity. This significant reduction in environmental impact is a result of integrating renewable energy sources and sustainable production practices into SuperMeat’s continuous production process.
Key findings from the analysis include a 47% reduction in carbon footprint, a 64% decrease in fine particulate matter formation, an 85% lessening in terrestrial acidification, and a 90% cutback in land use compared to traditional chicken farming. Additionally, SuperMeat’s chicken product demonstrates a lower Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) than conventional meats, making it almost three times more efficient in transforming feed into meat.
SuperMeat’s CEO, Ido Savir, emphasized the importance of efficiency in meat production, stating that it is no longer just a goal but a necessity. The company plans to use the findings from the Life-Cycle Analysis as a strategic guide for planning its large-scale production facilities, with a focus on incorporating renewable energy, establishing a sustainable supply chain, and enhancing production processes.
SuperMeat’s dedication to advancing sustainable meat production has positioned them as a leader in the cultivated meat sector. Through their innovative continuous production process, they are setting new standards for efficiency and sustainability in the industry. With strategic partnerships with leading food companies, SuperMeat is committed to creating a better food system for the future.
