La Jolla Village Merchants Association Revives Associate Member Program After COVID-19 Pause
After a COVID-19-related pause, the La Jolla Village Merchants Association is reviving its associate member program, offering businesses outside the La Jolla Business Improvement District a chance to reap the benefits of LJVMA membership.
Established in 2019, the program allows businesses in areas not covered by the 30-block BID to access resources and support from LJVMA. Business improvement districts are designated by the city of San Diego to enhance and promote specific geographic areas through annual assessments on business owners. LJVMA oversees the La Jolla district.
One particular focus this year is on businesses along Draper Avenue, which are technically part of The Village but fall outside the BID boundaries. LJVMA Executive Director Jodi Rudick explained the unique boundary issue at a recent meeting, highlighting the importance of including these businesses in the association.
Associate members, whether individuals or business representatives, can engage in LJVMA activities and initiatives, excluding board membership. Membership fees range from $120 to $480 annually based on the size of the company.
At the latest meeting, eleven associate membership applications were approved, signaling a renewed interest in the program. To further expand participation, LJVMA plans to reach out to neighboring areas like Bird Rock and The Shores, as well as local banks and real estate agents.
In addition to the associate member program, discussions are underway for UC San Diego to potentially manage the “skinny banner” program in The Village and along Torrey Pines Road. This program, which has been in place for over 15 years, aims to raise funds for beautification efforts in La Jolla.
The next LJVMA meeting is scheduled for June 12 at the La Jolla/Riford Library. For more information, visit lajollabythesea.com. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be part of the vibrant La Jolla business community!
