Qatar Economic Forum 2024: Navigating the Year of Uncertainty

Qatar Economic Forum (QEF) has become a key player in the global business arena, attracting world leaders, decision-makers, and intellectuals from around 50 countries. The upcoming QEF 2024, organized by Media City Qatar and powered by Bloomberg, is set to address pressing issues facing the global economy under the theme “A World Remade: Navigating the Year of Uncertainty”.

With the world grappling with post-pandemic challenges, geopolitical turmoil, and rapid technological advancements, the Forum aims to provide insights into key topics such as geopolitics, globalization, trade, energy transitions, sports and entertainment, and technology innovation. The event will also delve into economic diversification, growth priorities in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, responsible investment, and environmental sustainability.

Dr. Yousef Mohammed Al Horr, Chairman of Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) and Chairman of Global Carbon Council (GCC), emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability in economic growth, highlighting Qatar’s commitment to reducing emissions and adopting sustainable practices. The Global Carbon Council’s voluntary Carbon Offset Programme is seen as a practical approach to financing the transition to net-zero emissions.

Dr. Omar Khlaif Gharaibeh, Vice Dean of Business School at Al al-Bayt University, discussed the growth priorities in the GCC countries, emphasizing the need for cooperation between the public and private sectors to develop modern industries and leverage technology for increased productivity. He also highlighted the impact of the fifth industrial revolution on job markets and the importance of adapting educational systems to meet the challenges of technological advancements.

Dr. Hassan Latif Kazem, Professor of Economic Development at the University of Kufa, highlighted the economic repercussions of regional tensions, particularly in the Gaza Strip, on global commodity and energy trade routes. He emphasized the need for strategic infrastructure development to mitigate the impact of transportation costs on food security and global trade.
