New Jersey Adds Sixteen Businesses to List of Employers Who Have Failed to Pay Wages and Taxes

Sixteen New Jersey businesses have been added to the state’s Workplace Accountability in Labor List (WALL) this month for failing to pay wages, benefits, and taxes, totaling a combined $16.8 million in violations. The businesses, ranging from transportation companies to barbershops, have been barred from receiving public contracts until they settle their outstanding liabilities.

The WALL, established by the New Jersey Department of Labor, aims to hold businesses accountable for violating state workers’ compensation laws. The list currently includes 161 businesses owing a total of $992 million in violations. The state passed legislation creating the WALL last September to ensure that all businesses comply with the law.

Commissioner Robert Asaro-Angelo emphasized the importance of businesses adhering to regulations, stating that the majority of New Jersey employers are law-abiding. He encouraged businesses on the list to appeal the findings against them and settle their violations to avoid further consequences.

The full list of businesses on the WALL, last updated on May 17, 2024, can be viewed online. The businesses added this month include Able 1 Express, Inc., Adams Mechanical HVAC, and American Eagle Enterprise Inc., among others. Violations range from the Workers’ Compensation Law to tax laws.

The Department of Labor continues to update the WALL monthly, with the goal of reducing the number of businesses on the list. As businesses strive to compete in the state, compliance with labor laws remains essential to maintaining a fair and ethical business environment.
