Mortgage Broker Accused of Murdering Wife Claims Last Seeing Her Alive 30 Minutes Before Calling 999

Mortgage Broker Accused of Murdering Wife Days After Paying Life insurance Policy

In a shocking turn of events, mortgage broker Robert Hammond has been accused of murdering his wife, Sian, just days after paying her Life insurance policy. The court heard that Hammond called the ambulance service at 1:50 am on October 30 last year, claiming he found his 46-year-old wife face down on the bed and not breathing.

Air ambulance doctor Abilius Wong, who responded to the call, testified that Hammond had last seen his wife alive and well just 30 minutes before making the emergency call. Despite efforts to resuscitate her, Sian Hammond was pronounced dead at 2:35 am at their home in Primes Corner, Histon, Cambridgeshire.

Prosecutors revealed that Hammond was facing a “surging mountain of debt and financial pressures” and had paid his wife’s Life insurance policy up to date shortly before her death. A post-mortem examination indicated that Mrs. Hammond had been strangled, adding a chilling layer to the case.

During the trial at Cambridge Crown Court, critical care paramedic Sally Boor recalled the harrowing moments of trying to save Mrs. Hammond’s life. She mentioned that blood had come up through one of the tubes inserted into Mrs. Hammond’s mouth during CPR, a rare occurrence that typically happens after a longer period of resuscitation.

The defense questioned whether Hammond may have actually said he last saw his wife 30 to 60 minutes before the emergency call, but Boor stated that while unlikely, it was possible. Additionally, it was revealed that Mrs. Hammond had taken diazepam, not her own, earlier in the day due to excitement and nervousness about her daughter’s return from Switzerland.

Emergency care assistant Carl Clifton, who also responded to the scene, confirmed that despite the efforts of eight medics, there was never any sign of life from Mrs. Hammond. The trial continues as more details unfold in this tragic and mysterious case.

The allegations against Robert Hammond have sent shockwaves through the community, raising questions about the true nature of his relationship with his wife and the financial pressures he was facing. As the trial progresses, more light may be shed on the events leading up to Sian Hammond’s untimely death.
