Democrats Close Enthusiasm Gap Among Latino Voters, Axios Vibes Survey Shows
The latest Axios Vibes survey by The Harris Poll reveals a significant shift in enthusiasm among Latino voters since President Biden withdrew from the re-election race. The survey shows that Democrats have closed a large enthusiasm gap among Latino voters, particularly among millennial Latinos, Generation Z, and women in this demographic.
The shift to a Kamala Harris-Tim Walz ticket has energized Latino voters, with 83% of registered Latino Democratic voters and 84% of Latino Republican voters now saying they are extremely likely to vote. This marks a significant increase from last month’s survey, where only 71% of Latino Democrats felt the same way.
In addition to increased enthusiasm for voting, the survey also found that 73% of Latino voters are more hopeful for the country’s future, and 60% feel reinvigorated by politics. This surge in optimism is reflected in the fact that 79% of millennial Latino voters now say they are extremely likely to vote, a 16 percentage point increase from July.
The survey also highlights important issues for Latino voters, such as housing affordability, wages, and inflation. Housing affordability and wages are particularly significant concerns for Latino voters compared to non-Latino voters. Vice President Harris’s proposal to help first-time home buyers cover $25,000 toward the purchase of a home has resonated with Latino voters in these crucial Central California U.S. House Districts.
Overall, the survey underscores the importance of addressing economic issues for Latino voters, who see Harris as preferable to President Biden on a range of issues. With the campaign now in full swing, Latino voters are eager to hear candidates discuss the issues that matter most to them, particularly economics.
The findings of this survey provide valuable insights into the shifting dynamics of Latino voter enthusiasm and priorities as the 2024 election approaches. Subscribe to Axios Latino for more vital news about Latinos and Latin America delivered to your inbox on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
