Regional Health ribbon-cutting opens new unit in Merrillville

The Regional Health Systems, a member of the Regional Care Group, recently celebrated the opening of its new Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit at the Merrillville Care Center location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The event was attended by community leaders, local law enforcement, and representatives from various organizations.

The Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit, located at 8555 Taft St., will provide comprehensive crisis support to both youth and adults in alignment with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Best Practices. The funding for this program was made possible by a grant from the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s Division of Mental Health and Addiction, the federal American Rescue Plan Act, and the National Opioid Settlement.

During the ribbon-cutting event, attendees had the opportunity to tour the new unit and learn more about the services it will provide. The event highlighted the importance of mental health stabilization services and the impact they can have on individuals in crisis.

In addition to the Crisis C.A.R.E. Unit opening, the Northwest Indiana Paddling Association (NWIPA) received a $6,000 grant from the Porter County Community Foundation to purchase new kayaks. The NWIPA, founded in 2009, aims to promote paddle sports safety, environmental stewardship, and outdoor recreation in Northwest Indiana.

Furthermore, the Northwest Indiana Influential Women Association (NWIIWA) announced the finalists for the 13th annual Influential Women Awards. The winners will be selected in 12 different industry categories, with special awards given in other categories like Community Leader of the Year and Supporter of the Year.

Lastly, Making a Kid Smile (MAKS), a charity organization, is seeking sponsorships for its upcoming fundraiser gala on November 1st. The event, titled “Paint the Town Red,” will support MAKS’ mission of providing personal care items to children in need. The gala will include live and silent auctions to raise funds for the organization’s essential services.

Overall, these recent events in the Northwest Indiana community showcase the dedication to mental health support, outdoor recreation, women empowerment, and charitable giving.
