Now, Musk has cited a new law passed in California as the “final straw” that prompted the decision to relocate X and SpaceX.

The law in question prohibits school districts from notifying parents when a child changes their gender identity, name, and pronouns at school, a move that Musk strongly opposes. In a post on X, Musk criticized the law and announced the relocation of SpaceX’s headquarters from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas. He also revealed plans to move X’s headquarters from San Francisco to Austin.

While Musk is confident that “many will follow” him to Texas, citing recent wins with Tesla shareholders and his influence in the tech industry, there are doubts about the long-term viability of Texas as a tech hub.
