Albertsons and Kroger Announce Store Divestitures to C&S Wholesale Grocers: Complete Coverage by BoiseDev

Albertsons and Kroger have revealed their plans to sell off a number of stores to C&S Wholesale Grocers as part of their proposed merger deal. The companies are aiming to ease anti-trust concerns by divesting 579 stores, with specific details on the Idaho locations now available.

In Idaho, Albertsons currently operates 44 stores, with ten of them set to be transferred to C&S Wholesale Grocers. These include six Albertsons locations in Boise, as well as stores in Meridian, Nampa, Pocatello, and Twin Falls. Notably, Kroger has decided to retain all of its Fred Meyer-branded stores in Idaho.

The fate of the branding for the divested stores remains unclear, as the companies have not provided details on whether they will continue to operate under the Albertsons name. C&S Wholesale Grocers will take control of several brand names, including QFC from Kroger, and Mariano’s, Carrs, and Haggen from Albertsons.

Additionally, it was revealed that Susan Morris, a Boise Albertsons executive, would lead C&S’ retail division if the deal goes through. The merger deal is facing challenges from the Federal Trade Commission, the State of Washington, and the State of Colorado, with hearings on preliminary injunctions set to take place from August through September. The companies must win each case in order to meet the October deadline for finalizing the deal, or Albertsons could walk away with a $600 million breakup fee.
