Iconic Downtown Kennewick Business Farmers Exchange Closes After 100 Years

After 100 years in business, the iconic downtown Kennewick establishment, Farmers Exchange, has closed its doors for good. The full-service nursery, equipment dealership, and repair shop officially shut down on Monday, July 1, leaving the community in shock.

Owner Chris Ingersoll, who is the great-grandson of one of the store’s original owners, confirmed the closure and expressed his devastation at the decision. Ingersoll cited economic factors as the primary reason for the closure, noting that the struggling economy and rising costs made it increasingly difficult to sustain the business.

Despite the heartbreaking news, the community has rallied around Farmers Exchange, with customers and neighboring businesses expressing their gratitude for the store’s decades of dedication and service. Hot Mess Burgers & Fries and Ice Harbor Brewery were among those who shared their appreciation for the impact Farmers Exchange had on the downtown Kennewick landscape.

Ingersoll plans to temporarily reopen the store later in the week for a liquidation sale, where customers can purchase items at discounted prices. He also mentioned that he will be reaching out to customers with pending orders and repairs to ensure they are taken care of.

While the closure marks the end of an era for Farmers Exchange, Ingersoll expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to run the family business and be a part of its 100-year legacy. Despite the challenges faced, he remains thankful for the support of the community and the memories created during his time as the owner.
