Surf City College Student Launches Topsail Bike Taxi Business

Local College Student Launches Bike Taxi Business in Surf City

Surf City, NC – A Surf City resident and college student, Kade Kennedy, has recently launched a unique bike taxi business, Topsail Bike Taxi, in his hometown. What makes this business stand out is that Kennedy and his family built the bike taxi themselves, showcasing their dedication and entrepreneurial spirit.

Kennedy, a student and college football player at Barton College, was inspired to start Topsail Bike Taxi after a trip to Charleston, South Carolina, where he came across a bike taxi in downtown Charleston. The idea of introducing a similar form of transportation to Surf City stuck with him, and after weeks of research and hard work, Topsail Bike Taxi was born.

With the help of his dad, Geno Kennedy, and master welder George Edwards, Kennedy built the bike taxi from scratch using a pedicab trailer and his mother’s mountain bike. Through trial and error, they were able to create a functional and unique bike taxi that is now ready to serve the community.

Topsail Bike Taxi offers transportation, joyrides, tours, and beach setups in Surf City, covering popular spots like the canals, Tortugas, Trailer Bar, and the Surf City Pier. Kennedy operates most days and nights, currently charging tips only for his services. However, he plans to establish a set rate in the future, starting at $25 for beach setups.

Kennedy emphasizes that Topsail Bike Taxi is a legitimate and safe service, providing a fun and unique experience for customers. With music and lights for nighttime rides, Kennedy aims to offer a memorable and enjoyable transportation option for the community.

As the only bike taxi on the island, Kennedy hopes to fill a need for reliable transportation in Surf City while offering fair pricing and exceptional service. With the support of his family and friends, Kennedy’s dream of starting his own business has become a reality, and he looks forward to serving the local community with Topsail Bike Taxi.
