Royals Defeat Guardians 6-2 Behind Lugo’s Strong Pitching

The Kansas City Royals came out on top with a 6-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on June 30, thanks to a stellar performance by pitcher Seth Lugo and a two-run homer by Salvador Perez. Lugo struck out 10 batters in six shutout innings, earning his major league-high 11th win of the season. Perez’s home run in the seventh inning helped secure the win for the Royals, who took three out of four games from the AL Central leaders.

Bobby Witt Jr. also had a standout game for the Royals, contributing a run-scoring triple and three hits. Vinnie Pasquantino added three hits and an RBI to help the team’s offensive efforts.

On the Guardians’ side, Logan Allen pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up three runs and six hits with three strikeouts. Jose Ramirez and Josh Naylor provided some offense for Cleveland, with Ramirez hitting an RBI double and Naylor adding an RBI single.

The win for the Royals came after a 12-15 record in June, their first losing month of the season. However, the team’s 14 wins in June were the most since 2017.

Next up, the Guardians will face the Chicago White Sox on July 2, with Carlos Carrasco scheduled to pitch. The Royals will continue their homestand with a game against the Tampa Bay Rays on the same day, with the starting pitcher yet to be announced.
