CarbonCapture Inc. Unveils First Direct Air Capture Module for Mass Production in the U.S.

CarbonCapture Inc. is set to revolutionize the direct air capture industry with the unveiling of their mass-production-ready module, the Leo Series. This groundbreaking technology has the potential to significantly impact the fight against climate change by capturing more than 500 tons of CO2 per year per module.

The company’s modular units are the size of standard shipping containers and will be produced at a factory capable of churning out 4,000 units per year. With a recent $80 million Series A funding round led by Prime Movers Lab, Aramco Ventures, and Amazon Climate Pledge Fund, CarbonCapture is poised to deploy their first Leo Series module next year.

The modular approach to sorbent-based direct air capture sets CarbonCapture apart from competitors like Climeworks. By partnering with research institutions to develop more effective sorbents, CarbonCapture aims to continuously improve their modules over time. Additionally, the company’s decision to manufacture the modules in the U.S. sets them apart from other players in the industry.

The Energy Department’s support of CarbonCapture’s factory aligns with their goal of spurring the development of the air capture industry. However, studies show that more investment and deployment are needed to meet global warming targets set in the Paris Agreement.

Overall, the unveiling of CarbonCapture’s mass-production-ready module marks a significant step towards commercializing direct air capture technology and combating climate change.
