The Port of Los Angeles Receives Business Development Award from Wilmington Chamber of Commerce
LOS ANGELES – The Port of Los Angeles has been recognized by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce for its outstanding achievements in business development, innovation, job creation, and infrastructure improvements. Executive Director Gene Seroka accepted the Chamber’s Business Development Award at a recognition luncheon this week.
Commission President Lucille Roybal-Allard expressed gratitude to the residents and businesses of the Wilmington community for their partnership and support of the Port. She emphasized the Port’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life in the area and creating economic opportunities and jobs for the community.
Seroka, in his acceptance speech, highlighted the Port’s ongoing investments in the Wilmington community, including the recently unveiled $77 million Wilmington Waterfront Promenade. He also mentioned the upcoming $65 million Avalon Promenade Bridge and Gateway project, which is set to further enhance the area.
The Chamber’s nomination for the award praised the Port for its contributions to the economic and social advancement of Wilmington. It specifically mentioned the Port’s success in cargo operations, which has led to job creation and economic growth in the community. The Port’s commitment to sustainability and emission-reduction programs through the Clean Air Action Plan was also recognized, along with its significant investment in the revitalization of the Wilmington waterfront.
In addition to the Port of Los Angeles, Nancy Kuria, principal of Saints Peter and Paul School, was honored as the 2024 Woman of the Year, and Johnny Walter, transportation director for the Boys and Girls Club of the Los Angeles Harbor, was named the 2024 Man of the Year at the luncheon.
The Port’s recognition by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce highlights its dedication to fostering economic growth, creating jobs, and improving the quality of life in the Wilmington community.
