Nevis Students Partner with Best Prep for Real-World Experiences

Nevis High School students gain real-world experiences through partnership with Best Prep

Nevis High School students in Laura Scanlon’s personal finance class and Jodi Sandmeyer’s economics class recently had the opportunity to connect with employees from Thrivent Financial in Minneapolis through the eMentor Program coordinated by Best Prep.

The students began the program by introducing themselves to their eMentors via email and continued to communicate with them on a weekly basis. Each week, the students wrote letters on various workplace topics such as leadership qualities, interviewing skills, money management, and work/life balance. The mentors provided valuable advice based on their own career experiences.

On April 29, the students had the chance to meet their eMentors in person at the Thrivent corporate headquarters. The visit included lunch, a career panel, and a corporate tour, allowing the students to engage with their mentors face to face.

In addition to the eMentor Program, Nevis students also participated in the Stock Market Game, where they had the opportunity to invest virtual money and track their progress using real-time stock market pricing. Furthermore, 10 Nevis high school students will be attending Minnesota Business Venture, a week-long business camp at the University of St. Thomas, where they will work on developing business plans and enhancing their leadership and financial literacy skills.

Overall, the partnership with Best Prep has provided Nevis High School students with valuable real-world experiences and insights into the world of business and finance.
