Elon Musk Requires Tesla and SpaceX Employees to Return to the Office or Resign, Reports Say
Elon Musk, the world’s richest man and founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has reportedly issued a directive to employees of both companies demanding they return to the office or find another job. According to reports from Reuters and The New York Times, Musk sent an email to employees stating that they must work a minimum of 40 hours per week in the office.
The email reportedly stated, “If you don’t show up, we will assume you have resigned.” This directive was echoed in a similar email sent to employees of SpaceX, Musk’s aerospace company.
Tesla, which recently dissolved its public relations department, could not be immediately reached for comment on the matter. When asked on Twitter about the remote work policy, Musk responded by saying, “They should pretend to work somewhere else.”
This move comes as companies across the globe are eager to get employees back into the office following the COVID-19 pandemic. However, with inflation on the rise and concerns about the financial costs of returning to the office, many workers may be hesitant to comply with Musk’s directive.
Meanwhile, Musk is still in the midst of negotiating a potential deal to acquire social media company Twitter for $44 billion. Last month, he stated that the deal couldn’t move forward until Twitter can verify that less than 5% of its user accounts are fake or spam.
