“600+ Business Leaders Gather for DuPage County Regional Business Outlook: What Now & What Next?”

The 14th Annual DuPage County Regional Business Outlook event held at the Drury Lane on June 6, 2024, brought together over 600 of the region’s top business and civic leaders to discuss the current economic landscape and future prospects under the theme “What Now & What Next?”. The event, organized by Choose DuPage, Ice Miller, and Mesirow, provided actionable insights and valuable perspectives on how the community can collaborate for a better tomorrow.

Deborah Conroy, Chair of the DuPage County Board, set the tone for the event by highlighting the strength of the DuPage economy. She emphasized the county’s fiscal responsibility, healthy budget surplus, flat property tax rate, and AAA-bond rating. Conroy’s financial strategy focuses on making key investments, paying off debt early, and maintaining healthy reserves to provide outstanding service to residents while maximizing the value of tax dollars collected.

Leo Harmon, Senior Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer at Mesirow, delivered the Economic Outlook, noting the resilience of the U.S. economy compared to global peers. Harmon highlighted the role of fiscal spending, monetary liquidity, and employment formation in sustaining growth while managing inflation. However, he cautioned that rising debt and deficits, along with excess liquidity, could pose challenges for monetary policy in the future.

Mark Sander, President and COO of Old National Bank, echoed Harmon’s sentiments in his Business Outlook, expressing optimism about the economic future of DuPage County. Sander emphasized the spirit of determination and collaboration among business leaders in Chicagoland, driving the region’s economic growth and prosperity.

The event served as a platform for business owners, executives, government officials, and education leaders to discuss best practices and growth opportunities in today’s economy. Choose DuPage, as the regional economic development organization for DuPage County, plays a crucial role in advancing the county as a premier global business location. With a skilled labor force, diverse economy, business-friendly climate, and robust transportation network, DuPage County is well-positioned to attract and retain businesses.

Ice Miller, a full-service law firm, and Mesirow, an independent financial services firm, also play key roles in supporting businesses and communities. Ice Miller advises clients on complex legal issues, while Mesirow offers personalized financial services to help clients reach their goals and contribute to social good.
